Kicked off the PLP with some of my closest PCT family: trail angels Papa Joe & Terrie Anderson of Casa de Luna. Happening to see trail angel Thom from Kennedy Meadows as well was a special surprise – I hadn’t seen him since my stop at PCT mile 127 in 2015. Trail angels are such an amazing part of thru-hiking; locals going above and beyond the normal bounds of generosity and kindness to help hikers make their way up and down the long trails. If you’re hiking and are benefitted by a trail angel, please make sure to do your part to support them in return, so they can keep doing what they do!
After a giant breakfast burrito, I made my way south to meet up with a bunch of hikers to car camp in Anza-Borrego SP prior to the next day’s hike to Eagle Rock on the PCT. Four of the group I’d hiked with on the San Diego Trans-County Trail in 2015, the people that inspired me to do the PCT later that year, and the other two also hiked the PCT in 2015. Despite the freezing cold and windy conditions, it was a fantastic reunion getting to catch up with everyone, since typically we are all off in the four directions doing our thing. All in all, the perfect start for the project: getting to kick it off with family.
